Fay E. Millward Obituary

Idaho State Journal, Friday, March 10, 2000.

Fay Eliason Millward, 79, passed away suddenly at his home in Pocatello, Idaho on March 7, 2000. He was born July 28, 1920, in Bancroft, Idaho, to Chester Vickus and Evelyn Selma Eliason Millward. He was the older brother of George Eliason and Shirley. He was raised in Bancroft, and graduated from North Gem High School in 1939.

On October 1, 1941, he married his childhood sweetheart, Glade Jenkins, in Twin Falls, Idaho. It was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah Temple. She was two months older than him, and loved to remind him of that often. She even attended his own baby shower before he was born.

Their marriage was blessed with four children, Jacqueline, Faye Ann, Vicki Kay and George J. Fay was a hard-working man who spent time as a theater manager, truck driver, television repairman and his last job before retiring in 1982 was as a service station manager in Bountiful, Utah.

But his favorite stories to tell to all who would listen were those of his days as a navy photographer during World War II. He served his country from April 1944 to January 1946. Fay loved to share his photographs and experiences of being the photagrapher aboard the Enola Gay, the airplane that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 1945. He was also on the second plane, which bombed Nagasaki two days later.

After 58 years of marriage, Fay took Glade on a wonderful Caribbean cruise for a long-overdue honeymoon last January. Fay enjoyed collecting old-time model cars, Big Band-era music, movies and grandchildren. He has 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Glade, of Pocatello, Idaho; his three daughters and one son, Jacqueline Davis of Federal Way, Washington, Faye Ann (Noyle) Banks of Milford, Utah, Vicki Kay (Joe) Christofferson of Boise, Idaho, and George J. (LaRae) Millward of Pocatello, Idaho. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Hoff of Montpelier, Idaho, and sister-in-law, Eulail Millward of Bountiful, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother George Eliason MIllward.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, March 11, 2000, at the LDS Chapel in Bancroft, Idaho. Internment will be at the Bancroft, Idaho Cemetery.
